PEST & DISEASE + UNIQUE CHARACTERISTIC OF Zea mays

Image
It’s a normal if some plant got attack by pest and disease and its seems goes to sweet corn. Here are a few pest and disease attack by sweet corn. Firstly is chlorosis. symptom of plant disease in which normally green tissue is pale, yellow or bleached. it results from failure of chlorophyll to develop because of infection by a virus, lack of an essential mineral or oxygen, injury from alkali, fertilizer, air pollution or cold, insect, mite or nematode feeding gas main leaks, compaction or change in  soil level and stem or root. Severely chlorotic plants are stunted and shoots may die back to the roots. Control is aimed specifically at the causal agent of the disease. Our lecture, Madam Azlina said the chlorosis is caused when the nitrogen in mobilize to the fruit of the corn and all the nitrogen is being centralized for the fruit, that will cause the under part of the corn is lack of the nitrogen and causes the chlorosis, It's actually a common things ha...

MAINTENANCE

Image
Yeah! we continued again with the maintenance. After we have done with the planting the seed in the tray and removed it on the planting bed we need to took care the plants from any insect or anything that could damaged the baby Zea mays. Once a plantation has been established, the work should not be considered finished. It will be necessary, for example, to protect the plantation against weather, fire, insects and fungi, and animals. A variety of cultural treatments also may be required to meet the purpose of the plantation. So, the first action that we need to do is to remove the weed. The weed always around the the plants grow. That weeds will absorb the nutrient from the plant to grow. That causes the plants will stunted. For your information, sweet corn's leave already eat by some insect. It make the hole of the leaves. So, we use 'Serai Wangi' as a natural pesticide. We use that because a lot of ant in our plot. We cannot spray or apply that 'Serai W...

LET'S MOVE BABY Zea mays

Image
After our planting bed already done, we need to remove the seed who start to big because if too long the plants in the tray it can make the plant to be stunted. Why stunted? it because the plants don't have a big space for the to grow. We can see the root of plants cannot expands and the colour of the leaves also start to be yellow because didn't get enough sunlight. As you can see we transplant the sweetcorn and make a hole to plant the sweet corn. The length between one plants to another plants are 1ft and 1ft in each planting bed. We make a 2 row of sweet corn in one planting bed. After a few days the plants have been removed, we can see the plants start to growing fastly plus we give a enough water, get enough sunlight and fertilizer.

GERMINATE Zea mays SEED

Image
After we have done with land preparing and applying mulcing its time for us to germinate seed. Every group need to choose one crops. After discuss my group decided to plant a sweet corn. Before we choose the plants we need to know how long the plants take to harvest because we have a short time to plant the crops and need to sell before our final exam. For sweet corn it can be harvest on 68 until 72 days. So, it suitable with our time before final exam. This is the seed of sweet corn                                 Firstly, we need to germinate the seed in germinating tray. Another way to plants the crops is through direct seedling on the planting bed. Before that, we need to put the seed in the water for one day. It because we want to determined the good seed (sink) and the bad seed (float). The float seed because of the density which is less than water or it can be the seed may be having a waxy c...

LAND PREPARING

Image
After we done with liming process we do measurement and lining process. We do it because want to determined how the large size of land for each group behind want to make our plot to be more systematic. The total size of our plot is 106ft x 58ft . As you know we have 5 groups consist of 4 person. So, we will divided 16 planting bed which is 25ft x 4ft  per group and each person for every group need to handle 2 planting bed. Each planting bed is 12ft x 4ft. Then in the middle of our plot we made 'Jalan Agro' that will use as a walkaway to go every planting bed. This the rough sketch for our plot made by our supervisor After we determined the size it easier for us to making planting bed. After the measurement we use rafia ropes to make a lining for each planting bed and also 'Jalan Agro'. It easier for us to spray the soil. Then we going to apply chicken dung to our planting bed. Why we need to apply chicken dung? Because chicken dung can help to imp...
